I have a wood/solid fuel burining stove and prefer to burn wood for ecological reasons. However I have recently found out that your'e not allowed to burn wood in smokeless zones (unless you have an approved stove - mine isn't). I know that not all of sheffield is smokeless and I wonder if anyone knows if Stocksbridge is?
Thank you

Yes, it definitely is. How do I know? Because someone reported me!!!!! Just to let you know, you are allowed 20 minutes of 'burning time' i.e. starting your fire, which makes smoke. Then it's smokeless fuel time. You could try lighting it when it's dark and no one can see, although I find that the neighbours have a good sense of smell too. I'm afraid you will need to get one of those clean-air wood burners that re-cycle the smoke or something.
If you light your fire you will probably find that one of your neighbours is keeping a diary of times smoke is issuing from your chimney (sad, I know). Mind you, i do remember the bad old days when our washing was covered in soot! It's just that I can't really see the problem if only one or two people are burning wood or coal. I'm sure someone will add a post to put me right though...
